Eduardo Granzotto Lima: Dudu

He might kill it at Fortnight in his free time, but don’t be fooled. This 16-year-old blue belt destroys his competition on the mats. Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, the six time Brazileiro champion currently trains in California full-time with Lucas Leite and a killer Checkmat team. Coming in fresh as a 2018 World Champion, he already has his sights set on being a black belt world champion, and he is determined to never give up on his dreams. Meet Eduardo “Dudu” Granzotto.

BJJ Tees: Where are you from, and where do you currently train?

Dudu:  I am from Morro do Cantagalo in Rio de Janeiro, but currently I train in Brea, California with Lucas Leite.

 

How long have you been training?

9 years. 

 

How did you first get involved in Jiu-Jitsu?

 I was coming home with my father after school and on the way we saw a Jiu-Jitsu academy. My father decided to put me in classes to learn how to defend myself.

 

How much do you train every week? What is your daily schedule like?

 I train 12 times a week.

- Mondays and Wednesdays I do 3 daily workouts.

- Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays I do 2 daily workouts

- Physical preparation every Monday, Wednesday and Friday

 

Do you have to follow a strict diet?  What are your favorite foods to eat?

Sometimes. I like a Brazilian dish. Rice, beans, steak and kale

 

What are some of the challenges you have faced along your journey as a competitor?

 Even though I was very young, I already had several challenges in my life as an athlete and the biggest of them was the lack of money to compete 

 

What motivates you?

My biggest motivation is my family, especially my sisters.

 

Do you get nervous before you compete? What do you do to get mentally ready?

 I'm not as nervous as I used to be, but I always have that cold in my belly. I think about how much I trained, how much I want to win and who I am!

 

What is your favorite submission?

Who are your inspirations in Jiu-Jitsu?

My master Rico Vieira

 

What are some of your goals for the future?

What I really want in life is to be a world champion at black belt and then maybe go to the UFC

 

Do you have any hobbies outside of Jiu-Jitsu?

 I use my lazy time to play Fortnite. Hahahahaha 

 

What is some advice you would give to other guys or girls who want to be competitors?

Read this sentence all day and if possible stick it on the door of your house

" Never give up your dreams "
